Just some favorites for the month of March 2010. The BEAT THE SYSTEM “SECTION-A” is a track that I created with Sean Hart in the studio under the “Beat The System” moniker. We may be releasing it as a free track soon. Keep your eyes peeled for BIG things from this moniker. Support the artists!
sHack’s new REVAMPED album dropped yesterday and it contains some of the finest mashed up classic tracks from the tech-funk and breaks scene. This is a MUST HAVE album for those who have been playing any of the artists listed below. sHack is such an important part of the tech-funk community and as a pioneer he has curated outlets for us such as StrongArm Sessions and also the Techfunk Manifesto Blog. Big respect to him and the whole community that supports.
“I decided to embark on a whole new extension of the re-edit idea looking at creating a number of brand new tracks out of components taken from older tunes… proper mash-ups. Some were born out of simple live jams that evolved into finely tuned studio creations, whilst others were ground-up rebuilds where I was effectively writing new pieces of music using samples from other tracks. There was no fixed way of working and no sacred cows that went un-plundered.”[Elite Force]
The long-awaited ‘Revamped’ album from mashup supremo Elite Force, is finally with us. With a list of Revamped artists that include Wolfgang Gartner, The Propellerheads, Plump DJs, Datsik, Vandal, Calvertron, Stanton Warriors, Meat Katie, Daniele Papini, Popof, Bar9, Bassbin Twins, Dylan Rhymes, Hatiras & Classixx (amongst many more), these re-workings are often closer to new productions than simple edits, a point made very eloquently by iDJ who observed that ‘we have entered a whole new paradigm in mashupology’ with the release of this album
First up we have the deep warm tech house textures of Italy’s Presslaboys with their take on ’Needles & Pins’, then straight on to fellow country man Flavio Diaz who gives us a swinging house version of Lucia. From there we head North to Scandinavia where one of Sweden’s finest Tony Senghore delivers a simply unique piece of electro funk with his take on Meat Katie’s title track ’The Tension’.
From there on out its a Techno assault with all remixers lending their skill to ’Lucia’. Up and coming Hungarian DJ producer Jade gives us a bass- heavy, heads down workout while Belgium’s Tom Hades opts for a late night builder. For the final two remixes the pace is further lifted; Montreal’s Mateo Murphy (winner of our NEW LOT COMPETITION) delivers an intense and relentless groove that will no doubt find it’s way into festival and your larger club arenas; and last but not least its the UK’s hotly tipped ’Tech-breaks’ golden boys Vent who step up and give us an energetic and futuristic re-rub of the highest calibre.
Monism Music artist, Brian Thomas’ remix of Simply Jeff’s “Hemisphere” had it’s release last month on the Beyond Zilla label. Due to being swamped with projects I am now getting around to posting it. Be sure to check out the full release, including of course Brian’s remix. Proper release from the West Coast family.
Just a shout out to Mateo Murphy who was just announced as the winner of the LOT49 Competition that was recently held. Full details below!

Together: The New England Electronic Music Festival is that rarest of opportunities. For many people, dance music and its continuing surge in popular culture provides a chance to collaborate and communicate as never before: thoughts are remixed, songs are made in cooperation and entire events are promoted collectively.
Together will be an extension of this idea, a multi-venue, multi-party, multi-panel super event uniting not simply genres of music, but entire scenes once thought to be disparate. The city of Boston provides a unique platform as well, with its enormous student population, numerous technology centers and differing types of venues.
Together Boston will reach thousands of personalities within the mixing generation. As The New England Electronic Music Festival we will touch on not just dance music, but the emerging technologies of electronic music production. By involving different groups—from the most senior avant-garde lovers to the youngest members of this new sound, this is the genesis of a new era of collaboration and innovation for the New England arts, technology and music communities.
In addition to the number of amazing events, workshops, record fairs and speakers going on during this week in February, I will personally be involved in a couple shows, including WE THE PEOPLE @ Estate Nightclub on February 10th featuring DJ KLEVER, CONGOROCK and much more! I have also been asked to participate in judging the TOGETHER DJ/PRODUCER COMPETITION. The deadline for submissions of original tracks is January 14th and deadline for DJ mixes is January 22nd.
